2010 Relay For Life of Franklin County
“Honorary Survivor & Caregiver of the Year Nominations”

West Frankfort, IL - The Relay for Life of Franklin County Committee is seeking nominations from folks throughout the Franklin County area to determine the 2010 Honorary Survivor and Caregiver of the Year. The duo will serve in the official capacity of ambassadors in their respective roles for the 2010 Relay For Life of Franklin County event, during the period leading up to and throughout the overnight event to be held June 25th–26th, 6:00 p.m.—6:00 a.m. at the West Frankfort Community Park.

Nomination forms have been distributed at various locations throughout Franklin County. Check your local libraries, Chambers of Commerce offices, medical clinics, doctor’s offices, convenience and grocery stores, etc. for nomination forms or contact Sherri Murphy at 937-1275 or Sandy Davis at 932-2742 to acquire a form. Nomination letters of 250 words or less may also be sent on a blank piece of paper with your name, address, and phone number along with the name, address and phone number of your nominee.

Changing the Face of Medicine: Women in the Civil War

Belleville, IL, Red Bud, IL - Kevin Monroe, History and Political Science professor at SWIC, will discuss ways that women challenged gender roles of the era to courageously join the battles of the Civil War. Clara Barton and others left the safety of their homes to bring medical aid and comfort to the wounded. In the process, they revolutionized the role of women in medicine. Mr. Monroes specialty is the Civil War and in recent years he has been focusing on women and their many roles in the war.

Marion, IL - Clay Campbell and the Kentucky Opry cast bring their own unique brand of family entertainment, comedy, and fun to the Marion Civic Center Friday night February 5th, 2010. Starting at 7:30 PM you will see a fast paced variety show featuring the talents of cloggers, singers, and musicians. All these young people are featured at the Kentucky Opry in Draffenville and are definitely Stars of Tomorrow.
