The Reptile Experience with Serengeti Steve
Marion, IL - Marion Carnegie Library invites everyone to meet the
“reptile man” Serengeti Steve on Janurary 19 at 5:30! The Reptile Experience will educate attendees
while giving them the rare opportunity to safely handle reptiles and
arachnids from around the world. The program is free and open to the public.
Serengeti Steve, a native of St. Louis, has raised and maintained more than
50 species of exotic snakes, lizards, monitors, tarantulas, turtles, frogs
and scorpions. Since beginning The Reptile Experience, Steve and his
critters have not only educated and entertained, but they have been featured
on FOX2 News and “Show Me St. Louis.”

An Evening with Lily Tomlin

Marion, IL - Learn about Mormons in Illinois, including the Mormon
Exodus via the Mormon Trail in the 1840s. Presented by Scott Joyner, M.D.
This event will be at 6:00pm at the Marion Carnegie Library and is free and open to the public.

Tax Season Tips
Marion, IL - Have tax questions for filing 2008 tax returns? Marion
Carnegie Library has an educational program to help. Kemper CPA will present
tax season tips at the library at 6:30pm on Jan 20 and Jan 27. The free program will assist anyone who has
questions about taxes. Kim Walker of the Marion branch at 3401 Professional
Park Drive will be the presenter. The program will include information on tax deductions, changes in tax law
and record retention, among other topics. Participants are encouraged to
bring questions based on their individual situation.

Anna, IL - Indoor flea market. P.A.S.T. welcomes arts & Crafts, antiques,
food, artists, specialty, and miscellaneous vendors. Reserved 10x10 space, $25, with electricity $30.

Everything is Illuminated
Marion, IL - Marion Carnegie Library’s “Read the Movie, Watch the
Book” program selection for January is Everything is Illuminated. Each month
the library chooses a new book and film combination. Participation is open
to all community members, who may participate by reading the book, watching
the movie or doing both. The movie will be shown at 5pm. Discussion time will be available after the movie.
Everything is Illuminated by Jonathan Safran Foer tells the story of a young
Jewish American who travels to the Ukraine in search of his grandfather’s
past. The 2005 movie stars Elijah Wood and
is directed by Liev Schreiber, who won awards from the Venice Film Festival
and the National Board of Review. It is rated PG-13.

Designing Dreams
Mount Vernon, IL - The new Beck Family Center at Cedarhurst Center for the
Arts was developed specificaly for children and families and inlcudes areas
such as a life-size 3-d painting, art cubicles, a weaving wall, Cityscape
builing area, LiteBrite, the Family Library complete with a lifesize indoor
tree. The Kyle McLane, in cooperation with the Family Center Committee
developed the new space. McLane's vision is showcased in the gallery through
February 15.
Admission is free and the hours are Tuesday through Saturday 10 am- 5pm. Sunday 1-5 pm.
